Crosswind Landing Testing

WOW! This is a pretty cool video of a 777 747 SP landing in a cross winds down in Brazil. This little item shows the Boeing factory determining the demonstrated crosswind landing limits on the 777 and the 747SP. The engineers make educated guesses, but then the test crews have to go actually prove the numbers. They sneak off to Brazil to do these tests at a certain remote BAF airbase famous for its continual atrocious crosswinds...Should the gear sideloads be excessive and fold one up, there is nobody there to take nasty pix for the Airbus guys to wave around in the press. This is some good piloting in getting these planes down. It comes close to "incredible".... tire change anybody???? If you haven't seen these it's pretty amazing to watch planes of this size crab walking in on a landing. I can hear the whole crew and the pilot just yelling "Yeehaaaa" at the top of their lungs. Note the rudder action on landing. PS: I suspect that the pilot and co pilot are wearing Depends.

the safer way to land with crosswinds is to de crab after touching down as the boeing test pilots are perfectly doing on these videos

My dad has original copies of some of the 777 test videos...I'm pretty darn sure these were filmed in the US, not Brazil.

Like the music and cool landing.

They do that to test the maximum stress level sorta kinda.

Well, they all get out of the crab after touching down. AFAIK this is not the Boeing recommended procedure which says that you're supposed to do a de-crab before touchdown to avoid inflicting too much stress to the undercarriage. Shit music, btw
